Dear Senator,
The CPUC and others misled you last week about both rooftop solar and the root cause of high electricity rates.
The data is quite clear that utility spending on poles and wires is why rates are so high. The CPUC and ratepayer advocates have failed to rein in this spending.
When people use less energy, utilities don’t have to spend as much on poles and wires and other grid costs. This is true whether people turn off the lights, turn down their AC, or make some of their energy from solar panels.
The utilities want everyone to believe that if people buy more electricity from the utility, rates will go down. That is absurd, but the CPUC and some advocacy groups have fallen for it.

Your calls do get noticed, especially when paired with an email. Look up your Senator’s number below. Here’s a sample message:
“Hi, my name is _____. I live in _______. I want the Senator to know that the CPUC misled the Senator about rooftop solar at the Energy Committee hearing last week. The root of high rates is utility spending on poles and wires. When people like me make our own solar energy, the utility doesn’t have to spend as much. That saves ratepayers money. Please focus on reducing spending on poles and wires, and stop scapegoating people who are part of the solution. Thank you.”
