Here are the Assemblymembers who helped to kill the bill that would have stopped the Big Utility Tax (AB 1999)
Ratepayer alert: The CPUC just passed a $24/month Utility Tax on most ratepayers starting in 2026. And our state legislators just voted down a bill that would have stopped this. Please hold them accountable!
The Utility Tax will increase bills on four million households. The Utility Tax is uncapped, the CPUC says this is just the beginning, and the utilities say they want it to increase to $70/month or more. Everyone would have to pay this no matter how much electricity you use.
Analysts say this will increase utility bills on people who live in apartments, condos, and smaller homes that don’t use a lot of energy, and also discourage energy conservation, efficiency, and rooftop solar.
AB 1999 would have prevented the tax from growing any faster than inflation, and would have sunset the entire tax in 2028.
AB 1999 was killed by the following legislators in a very underhanded way. They abstained from voting, which denied these bills the votes to pass without them having to be on record as voting “no”.
Here are the Assemblymembers who helped kill AB 1999 by denying the votes it needed to pass: Joaquin Arambula, Isaac Bryan, Lisa Calderon, Wendy Carrillo, Diane Dixon, Mike Fong, Matt Haney, Gregg Hart, Jim Patterson, Eloise Reyes, Kate Sanchez, Miguel Santiago, Tri Ta, Carlos Villapudua, Buffy Wicks, Jim Wood, Rick Zbur.
