Hi, my name is _______. I live in _________. Please support AB 2389, which would stop a Solar Property Tax from hitting people who install batteries or solar panels. A Solar Property Tax does not make sense. The government should not make energy more expensive than it already is. Thank you.

I want to let people know that many California solar owners could face higher property taxes in 2027 unless lawmakers act this year to stop it. A higher property tax could be triggered if you: add a battery to your existing system, add more solar panels on your roof, or install a new rooftop solar system.

A Solar Property Tax makes no sense. Putting rooftop solar on your home doesn’t add costs to your city or county. In fact, rooftop solar reduces strain on the electrical grid and prevents blackouts.

For 40 years, the state Legislature has ensured that your property taxes won’t go up if you put solar on your roof or a battery in your garage.

However, that protection will expire by the end of the year. The Legislature must act now to extend the solar property tax exemption by passing AB 2389 (Irwin).
