SMUD Solar Shares Public Hearing ask

Tell SMUD: Drop your SolarShares plan and start over, with public input

To the SMUD Board of Directors:

Please scrap your current SolarShares plan and hold public hearings on the path forward.

SMUD’s current plan is too flawed to simply amend. It would effectively prevent many new homeowners from benefiting from rooftop solar and batteries for 20 years. The estimated $20/year “benefit” of the program is a pittance compared to the economic benefits of true rooftop solar. This is bad for consumers and would make the community less resilient in emergencies.

SMUD did not seek broad community input while designing SolarShares. This is one reason why there is such diverse and widespread opposition to your current plan. Please live up to the spirit of a community utility and listen to the community on this issue.
