SD Franchise Agreement

Make SDG&E respect San Diego’s solar rights!

Tell Mayor Gloria and City Council:

“Please drive a harder bargain with SDG&E in exchange for permission to operate its power lines on San Diego city property:

– SDG&E must stop attacking rooftop solar and battery storage with lobbying, discriminatory fees and red tape. These activities undercut the interests of City residents and of City policy.

 – The franchise agreement should be for just five years or less, not decades long, and should be terminated by the City immediately if SDG&E violates it.

 – The City should make a comprehensive, thought-out alternative to SDG&E, such as establishing a publicly-owned utility. This will give the City leverage to force SDG&E to comply with the agreement, and a clear path to exiting from SDG&E if that makes sense.”
