NEM3 June 2nd Rally details

June 2nd "Don't Tax the Sun" Rally Instructions

Thank you for attending the “Don’t Tax the Sun” rally in either LA or San Francisco. Below are detailed instructions for the events. Send a text message to 916-778-0096 or email for questions.

What the Rally is About

The events will be held in conjunction with the June 2 meeting of the CPUC. Our goal is to create the largest ever submission of live and video-recorded public comments in CPUC history.

Los Angeles Rally: Gather with thousands of solar supporters at Grand Park in LA to make sure the CPUC hears from SoCal! The day will kick off with powerful speakers followed by an opportunity for all attendees to record a short video and submit it to the CPUC and the Governor. We’ll also have food trucks, sign making stations, information booths, and other activities for everyone.

San Francisco Rally: Look the CPUC in the eye and tell them what you think in person on June 2nd! We will kick it off with a rally on the steps of the CPUC, and then help you sign up and speak directly to the CPUC. And, of course, we’ll have refreshments!

All attendees will get a red “Don’t Tax the Sun” and “Stop the Solar Tax” t-shirt along with a sticker that reads, “I testified against the Solar Tax!”

Los Angeles: Performance Lawn, Grand Park, 200 N. Grand Avenue

San Francisco: California Public Utilities Commission, 505 Van Ness Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102

Both events begin at 10:30 am and will wrap up at 3:00pm.

What to prepare

How to prepare: Here are instructions for preparing your one-minute public comment. We will have further guidance for you at the Rallies.

San Francisco:
We suggest parking at one of two garages if possible: The Civic Center Garage at 355 McAllister Street (Height Clearance: 7′-0″; entrance on Larkin and McAllister Streets) first and the Performing Arts Garage at 360 Grove Street (Height Clearance: 6′-9″; entrance on Grove Street) second. Both garages should have between them hundreds of available spaces and are managed by the city. If you have someone in your car with a smartphone, they can also go here and click on each respective garage to see how many spots are available when you are close. In addition, there are countless parking lots and garages in the area if for some reason you cannot park at either of these locations. Go here for a list of options from Google Maps.

Los Angeles:
We suggest parking at the Music Center Main Garage located at 218-246 N Grand Ave between 1st and Temple Street (The easiest access to the garage is via southbound traffic on Grand Avenue) or the Walt Disney Concert Hall Garage located on 2nd Street between Hope and Grand Ave. Both garages should have plenty of parking at that time of day. There are countless parking lots and garages in the area if for some reason you cannot park at either of these locations. Go here for a list of options from Google Maps.

Public Transit

San Francisco:
If you are taking BART to the rally, the closest stop is Civic Center/ UN Plaza Station. Take the UN Plaza exit and walk west until you hit Civic Center Plaza. You can go here to use the BART planner tool.

Los Angeles:
If you are taking the LA Metro, the closest stop is the Civic Center/Grand Park Station, which is directly across the street from our section of Grand Park. You can find a map of the Metro here or go here to use their trip planning tool (make sure to put 200 N. Grand Ave., LA, CA 90012 as the destination address).

Thank you for bringing your voice to this incredibly important fight for the future of rooftop solar!
