My name is __. I live in ___. Please vote NO on the proposal to require unnecessary red tape for residents who want to use Plug-In solar systems. Plug-In solar is a chance for everyday people to safely cut their utility bills. Don’t ruin this opportunity before it even starts.

Solar update: Ventura County officials are considering a proposal to make it harder for many residents to use Plug-In solar.
The proposal would require some Ventura County residents to get a building permit before using Plug-In solar panels. This would involve an application, wait times, and fees. The proposal also has language that could block people from plugging these solar panels into their wall outlets. It would cover residents of unincorporated Ventura County, but that could be a slippery slope that will eventually impact every Ventura County resident. The county Board of Supervisors will likely vote on this proposal at their August 4th meeting.
The whole point of Plug-In solar is that people can buy these units on their own, set them up in a sunny location on their property, safely plug them into a wall outlet without needing permission from the utilities or the government, and begin saving money right away—without any additional red tape.
That’s why we need SB 868, the bill that would create a statewide safety standard for Plug-In solar and then cut the red tape. The Ventura County proposal undermines SB 868 with unnecessary bureaucracy that won’t make these units safer. Instead, it will make it harder for residents to use them.
People are struggling to pay their electricity bills. Plug-In solar is an opportunity for people to safely cut those costs. Help make sure Ventura County doesn’t ruin this opportunity before it even starts.
